Heat pumps in Malmö 2026: price, installation and what you save

Malmö has the mildest winters in Sweden, which makes the city one of the best places in the country for an air source heat pump. Where a pump in Norrland loses output at minus twenty, the same machine runs almost permanently inside its efficient range in Skåne.

This guide covers what the different pump types cost in Malmö in 2026, how installation works in a villa, a terraced house and an apartment, and how to model the payback without relying on a salesperson's most optimistic numbers.

Which type fits your home in Malmö?

Air-to-air suits villas and terraced houses with open plans and direct electric heating. It heats air, not water, so you still need a separate hot water solution. Installed cost: SEK 22,000 to 40,000.

Air-to-water suits homes with waterborne heat, meaning radiators or underfloor heating. It takes over both heating and hot water and delivers the biggest saving in Malmö. Installed cost: SEK 110,000 to 180,000.

Ground source requires boreholes and therefore a permit from Malmö city environmental department. Large parts of Limhamn and central Malmö have geological and groundwater restrictions, so always check first. Cost: SEK 180,000 to 280,000.
