Pest control in Sweden 2026: prices and your rights

Pests are one of the few household problems where the first move decides the total cost. A wasp nest removed in June costs a fraction of the same nest in August, and one rat stopped at the cellar door is cheaper than a colony in the wall.

This guide covers prices, insurance and what to do before the technician arrives.

Check your home insurance first

Most Swedish home insurance policies include pest treatment for houses, often with no excess. That usually covers rats, mice, wasps, ants and bed bugs, but not always silverfish or carpet beetles.

In a rental, treatment is the landlord's legal responsibility. In a co-op flat, the association's building policy applies while contents and sometimes the treatment fall on you. Always call your insurer before ordering treatment yourself, or you may end up paying the whole bill.

Prices if you pay yourself

Paying privately, these are typical 2026 Swedish levels including VAT and follow-up visits where needed.

• Wasp nest, easily accessible: 900 to 1,800 SEK
• Indoor ants, bait treatment: 1,500 to 3,000 SEK
• Silverfish: 2,000 to 4,000 SEK
• Mice or rats with follow-up: 3,000 to 8,000 SEK
• Bed bugs, heat treatment of an apartment: 8,000 to 20,000 SEK

Prepare before the visit

Clear away food, vacuum thoroughly and photograph where and when you saw the pests. Keeping one specimen in a jar helps: exact identification drives the choice of method.

With bed bugs, do not move furniture or textiles into another room, that spreads the problem. Let the technician decide how treatment and laundry should be handled.

Preventing the next infestation

Seal gaps around pipes and vents, mesh crawl space vents and keep compost closed. A mouse only needs six millimetres to get in.

In Skåne and along the coast, rats are most active in autumn as temperatures drop. A foundation check in September is cheap insurance.
