Tiling costs 2026: price per square metre in a Swedish bathroom

Tiling is the part of a bathroom renovation where the gap between good and bad workmanship costs the most over time. A faulty waterproofing layer is invisible from the surface, and that is exactly where water damage starts.

Here are 2026 Swedish prices, what is included per square metre, and what to demand from your tiler so your insurance holds.

Price per square metre in 2026

Plain tiling onto a prepared wall normally costs 1,100 to 1,800 SEK per square metre in labour. With waterproofing, filling and building a fall towards the floor drain included, the price usually lands at 2,000 to 3,200 SEK per square metre.

Materials are extra: simple white tiles from 200 SEK per square metre, while large formats, mosaic and marble-effect quickly reach 600 to 1,200 SEK.

So ask for a quality document from a BBV-certified firm when the job is done. It is a couple of pages of paper that is worth hundreds of thousands of kronor if a pipe leaks five years later.

Labour qualifies for a 30 percent ROT deduction in a home you own, up to 50,000 SEK per person per year. On a complete 5 square metre bathroom at 180,000 SEK, labour is typically 100,000 to 120,000, giving 30,000 to 36,000 SEK back.

In a co-op the deduction covers work inside your apartment, but always check with the association first, since touching waterproofing and risers normally requires approval.
