Locksmith prices 2026: lock changes, lockouts and smart locks
What a locksmith costs in Sweden in 2026, from an emergency lockout to cylinder changes and smart lock installation, plus what your insurer requires.

Most people call a locksmith exactly once, and always at the worst possible moment: keys on the inside, half past ten at night, and raining.
Here are 2026 Swedish prices for the most common lock jobs, plus what you can do in advance to avoid the out-of-hours rate.
Prices in 2026
A locksmith normally charges 800 to 1,200 SEK per hour during the day, plus a call-out fee of 300 to 700 SEK. Evenings, nights and weekends add 50 to 100 percent.
An emergency opening of a standard apartment door takes 10 to 30 minutes and costs 1,200 to 2,500 SEK during the day, or 2,000 to 4,000 SEK out of hours.
- Cylinder replacement: 1,500 to 3,500 SEK including cylinder and keys
- New approved deadlock on an entrance door: 3,500 to 7,000 SEK
- Extra deadlock or reinforcement plate: 2,500 to 5,000 SEK
- Installing a smart lock on an existing door: 1,500 to 3,000 SEK in labour
- Copying a system key: 150 to 400 SEK per key
What your insurer requires
Swedish home insurance sets requirements on locks for burglary cover to apply. Houses normally need an approved lock to SSF 3522 class 3 on every external door, while apartments usually need one approved deadlock.
If you lose a key marked with your address, the insurer may require the lock to be changed for a later burglary claim to be paid. Read your policy before choosing the cheapest cylinder.
Smart locks on Swedish doors
A smart lock is usually mounted on the inside over the existing thumb-turn cylinder, so the approved lock stays in place and insurance cover is unaffected. That is the only variant we recommend for apartments.
Budget 2,500 to 5,000 SEK for the unit plus 1,500 to 3,000 SEK for fitting. Check that manual key operation remains, that it warns on low battery, and that you can share time-limited codes with a cleaner or babysitter.
How to avoid the out-of-hours rate
The cheapest lock job is the planned one. Leave a spare key with a neighbour, fit a coded key safe, and change the cylinder when you move in rather than the week after.
- Book lock changes in daytime hours; the out-of-hours supplement is the biggest single cost
- Ask for a fixed price before the locksmith sets off
- Check that the company is authorised by the Swedish lock and security trade association
- Keep the receipt and lock certificate; your insurer may ask for them

Frequently asked questions
- What does an emergency night opening cost?
- Typically 2,000 to 4,000 SEK including call-out and out-of-hours supplement, depending on city and door type.
- Will the lock be damaged during opening?
- An experienced locksmith opens most locks without damage. If the cylinder has to be drilled, a new cylinder is normally included; confirm before work starts.
- Do smart locks affect home insurance?
- Not if the approved lock stays and the smart unit is fitted inside. If you replace the approved lock entirely, check your policy first.
