TV mounting and home electronics setup: guide and prices

A badly mounted TV is one of the most common causes of damage in Swedish homes. Plasterboard without studs, reinforced concrete and old plastered walls all need completely different fixings.

Here is what applies to each wall type, how to hide the cables properly, and what professional mounting costs.

The right bracket for the wall

Concrete walls take expanding concrete screws and the job is straightforward. In a plasterboard wall the bracket must go into the stud, never into the board alone. A 65-inch TV weighs 20 to 30 kilos.

In older buildings in Malmö and Lund, internal walls are often aerated concrete or brick behind plaster. Those need specific anchors and a test drilling before you settle on placement.

Cable routing that looks professional

There are three levels: surface trunking, cables recessed inside the plasterboard, or a fully hidden outlet behind the TV. Recessing mains cable requires an approved pass-through box to meet Swedish electrical rules.

If you want a new power socket behind the TV, a licensed electrician must install it. An installer may route signal cables but not fixed wiring.

Sound, wifi and smart devices

A soundbar or a 5.1 system changes the experience more than a more expensive TV does. Put the subwoofer on the floor but out of the corner, or the bass turns muddy.

If coverage is poor across the flat, a mesh system usually beats a stronger single router. Two nodes cover most Swedish three-room apartments.

What it costs

Mounting a TV on concrete or a stud wall typically costs 900 to 1,800 SEK including bracket and trunking. With recessed cabling and a new socket fitted by an electrician, expect 2,500 to 4,500 SEK in total.

Fixed installation work in the home qualifies for the ROT deduction, while simply connecting loose electronics can fall under RUT in some cases. Ask the company which applies to your job.
