Outlet installation 2026: price per outlet and when you need an electrician

Moving an outlet, adding a USB outlet or fitting a grounded outlet in the kitchen is one of the most common electrical jobs in Swedish homes. Price varies a lot depending on whether it's a new outlet on an existing circuit or all-new cable runs.

Cost per outlet

Replacing an existing outlet (same location): 800–1,500 SEK including material after ROT.

New outlet from existing circuit (0–3 m from existing): 1,500–2,500 SEK after ROT.

New outlet with long cable run or concrete wall: 2,500–4,500 SEK after ROT.

USB outlet (combo with USB-A/C): 1,000–2,000 SEK after ROT.

What you may do yourself

Replace plug-in fixtures, lamps and cord switches: OK.

Replace an existing wall outlet with an identical one (same location, same fuse): OK if you feel confident and have basic knowledge. Elsäkerhetsverket still recommends a licensed electrician.

Run new cable, install new outlets or wire to the fuse box: always requires a licensed electrician.

Rules per room

Bathroom: outlets must sit at least 60 cm from the shower zone and be protected by an RCD (present in all modern panels).

Kitchen: at least one grounded outlet per worktop, ideally on a separate circuit for larger appliances.

Outdoors: IP44-rated outlets and always their own RCD.

ROT deduction

Even small outlet jobs are ROT-eligible. The electrician deducts 30% of labour directly on the invoice.
