Flooring in Malmö: prices for parquet, laminate and tile 2026

The floor is the surface in your home you interact with most, and also the one that wears out fastest. A well-chosen floor lasts 25–40 years; a poorly chosen or badly installed floor may need replacing after 5–7 years. For Malmö residents renovating, flooring is often the choice that makes the biggest aesthetic difference per krona invested.

What does flooring in Malmö cost?

Prices below include material and labour for an average 60 m² apartment. The ROT deduction (30 % on labour) is included where applicable.

Laminate: SEK 550–1,100/m² incl. installation. Total SEK 33,000–66,000 for 60 m². Lasts 10–20 years under normal wear.

Vinyl (LVT/click vinyl): SEK 750–1,400/m² incl. installation. Total SEK 45,000–84,000. Water-resistant, also suits kitchen and utility room.

3-strip lacquered parquet: SEK 900–1,600/m² incl. installation. Total SEK 54,000–96,000. Can be re-sanded 2–3 times, lasts 40+ years.

Ceramic tile on floor: SEK 900–2,000/m² incl. installation. Most common in bathrooms, hallways and kitchens in Malmö apartments.

Which floor suits where?

Living room and bedroom: parquet or solid wood is the first choice. Gives warmth, character and ages beautifully. In rental or newer coop apartments, laminate is often a rational alternative at half the price.

Kitchen: vinyl or tile. Traditional wooden floor works but damage from dishwasher leaks becomes expensive to repair on a moisture-sensitive surface.

ROT does not apply to flooring in new-builds, basements or garages that are not used as living space.

Common mistakes in Malmö homes

Laying wooden floors too close to walls. Wood shrinks and swells, without expansion space at the wall (12–14 mm) the whole floor buckles when heated.

Choosing cheap laminate in hallways. Click joints in low-price laminate crack within 2–3 years under heavy wear. Upgrade to at least class 32 or 33 in hallways.

Forgetting the acoustic mat in coop apartments. The bylaws often require sound damping. Without an approved mat the neighbour can demand the floor is replaced at your cost.
