Bridal and event hair at home: planning, price and timing

On a wedding morning, time is the scarcest resource. Having the stylist come to you, instead of five people travelling to a salon, is the easiest hour you will ever save.

Here is how to plan it, what it costs, and what a realistic schedule looks like.

Book early and do a trial

Book a stylist three to six months ahead, especially for Saturdays between June and August. Do a trial four to eight weeks before, ideally on the same day as the makeup trial.

Bring the veil, hair jewellery and a photo of the dress's back to the trial. The style has to work with the neckline, not just in a mirror.

Price is driven mostly by how many people are styled and how long the stylist is on site.

• Trial styling: 800 to 1,500 SEK
• Bridal styling on the day: 1,800 to 3,500 SEK
• Bridesmaid or guest: 700 to 1,400 SEK per person
• Graduation or party styling: 600 to 1,200 SEK
• Early start before seven in the morning: 500 to 1,000 SEK surcharge

A realistic schedule

Allow 60 to 90 minutes for the bride and 30 to 45 minutes per additional person. Five people therefore needs three to four hours, or two stylists working in parallel.

Always build in 30 minutes of margin before the photographer arrives. That buffer rescues more wedding mornings than anything else.

Preparing the room

Pick the brightest room in the house and place a chair by a window. Avoid the bathroom, it gets crowded with several people and the light is usually too harsh.

Wash hair the evening before, not the same morning. Day-old hair holds an updo far better than freshly washed hair.
